A Review by Malach.
I was going to submit this to Angry Piper, but I will do another for him, as Murk just reviewed another Gamain book, American Gods. And I don't want to be accused or riding the derby of that accursed Necrophiliac.
Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch is a book, published in 1990, by Terry Pratchett (Discworld, which I have never read, is it worth it?) and Neil Gaiman (Sandman fame, read most of his books, love them). While neither is particularly clear about who wrote what or the development of the book, after the original short story was sent by Gaiman to Prachett, the two of them have made a very funny, black comedy about the Anti-Christ, and the Coming of End Times. Of course in the typical Gaiman style there are of plenty of sub plots; The Witchhunters; the gathering of the Four Horsemen (sans Pestilence who was wiped out by vaccinations, and the addition of Pollution); and Demon and Angel who have lived on Earth for seveal hundred years, enjoy the things about humanity and have become friends. And from what I read, Gaiman and Prachett have a similar writing style towars Gods, Angels, and Demons.
Through the whole book we get the undertone of Agnes Nutter a 16th century prophetess with the only accurate prophecies of the coming Armageddon, and her relatives who keep her prophecies and follow them to the end. They are highly accurate about the end time, if nothing else.
The Anti Christ himself is switched at birth, so instead of growing up with Satanistic parents and becoming the Anti-Christ; he grows up in a normal household and does not really know he is the Anti-Christ, and when he finds out, he's none to happy about it.
So the race is on, the Horseman to join the Anti-Christ, The Angel and Demon to stop Apocalypse, Nutter's young relatives, the witchhunters. All the while the Anti-Christ himself could care less who he is and is really not interested in being the Anti-Christ.
Wickedly funny in places, some of it a bit slapstick, it is a very good read, and something that will make you think. Malach gives it 3 thumbs up.
