Have you ever looked at the menu your kids get for lunch at school? OMG we as family red our niece's yesterday, its so full of crap food. How can you give that to kids that are developing, I though seriously for a second to take the menu to a nutritionist and see what she/he says about it. No wonder why US kids are so unhealthy and weak and FAT!!!
Okay here some of the menu stuff
Cheese "or" Pepperoni French bread pizza, Baked chicken nuggets, Grilled cheese sandwich, Fruited Gelatin milk, Macaroni and cheese, Green beans.
The only thing that its sort of "okay" is the Baked Srhimp Poppers.

I agree, that is one of the reason school lunches are gradually going through a huge over haul.
Favor, can you edit this post and add what the typical lunch schedule look like?
You aren't kidding, Toyi. The food they feed our children is abhorrent.
My mother used to run a preschool out of our house, and qualified for free government food to provide to the children (and, since we were low on funds, to her family!). While, as a youth, I was overjoyed at the pizza and pretzels I had at my disposal, when I think back to the huge bricks of orange processed 'cheese' and how unhealthy those pizza's and pretzels are, and to think back at the food available in the schools I attended, it disgusts me.
Thankfully, they are banning soda and drinks like that from school campus' across the nation. Here's hoping they go further!

I heard on our local news today ...speaking of which. That they are changing the birthday cake to birthday carrots. WTF? I'm so glad I'm no longer in school. My heart goes out to the ones that get carrots now instead of birthday cake!

That was one of the major points made in the movie Supersize Me. School lunches in this country are hideously bad for kids, and the less wealthy the school, the worse the food. Not because bad food is cheaper, but because the food companies aggressively sell their product to the local school districts and also because bad food is easier to store, and prepare. You can buy it in bulk, store it for months in a cheap freezer and you don’t need people with any skill at all to heat it up for the kids.
But hey, it’s only your kids.
This is why I am going to start the "Angry Veteran School Lunch Food Cooperative."
You will be searched every day you come into school; all consumables will be confiscated.
We will have a school farm/garden. You will eat what you grow. Hope you like tomatoes and rain water, 'cause you ain't harvesting any twinkies out there, you snot nosed little fuck.
You are going to be begging for green beans and grilled chicken by the second grade!
